Talland Bay Hotel to star in More4 TV show

We’re famous! The beautiful south Cornish coast and Talland Bay Hotel’s sunny sub-tropical gardens are set to steal the show when episode six of new More4 TV series, Devon & Cornwall is broadcast on 6 May.

In the words of the production company, True North, the eight-part series follows “a host of fascinating characters who reveal what it is really like to live and work in the far South West corner of Britain”. In episode six they focus on the collaboration between Talland Bay Hotel and Colwith Farm Distillery on the making of Talland Bay No.1 Gin.

“These two counties attract millions of visitors every year to wander the moors of their national parks and enjoy the golden sands of their beaches. But both Devon and Cornwall are more than a playground for hikers and holiday makers,” explains series researcher Joel Gellard.

It was back in July 2018 that the company first made contact with Steve Dustow at Colwith Farm Distillery, having heard about the brand-new facility he’d built on the fifth-generation family farm at Lanlivery near Fowey. He was already in talks with the team at Talland Bay Hotel about creating a hotel own-blend of gin and the story was a perfect fit for the show synopsis.

“One of our aims for the series was to meet people with strong generational ties to Devon and Cornwall, who could lead us with some authority through this stunning part of the UK, and show us what it means to live and work there,” says Andrew Sheldon, Executive Producer at True North.

“It was a pleasure for our team to visit such famously beautiful locations; not least because of the warmth and generosity of the people we met there. The Dustows and the staff at Talland Bay were a perfect example of this. They welcomed us and made filming a genuinely enjoyable experience”.

The crew followed the process as Jack and the Talland team decided on the base spirt and selected the botanicals from the hotel gardens. They returned to film in November when the final product was delivered.

Talland Bay No 1 gin is made using Colwith Farm Distillery’s potato wine as its base spirit, produced from potatoes grown on the farm. Botanicals are then added including a selection foraged from Talland Bay Hotel’s coastal gardens.

Episode 6 of Devon & Cornwall will be shown on More4 at 9pm on Monday 6 May.
